Cabinboy on customs launch. As midshipman on 2 year around the world voyage with one of Denmarks
clipperships. Sailed as first mate 1883 to the West Indies. 27/09-1885 shipwrecked with the brig
Mathilde of Tønsberg off the Jutland coast near Nørre Tårnby.
Promoted captain 1898 and sailed with DFDS ships Skålholt, Laura, Botnia and Island with permanent
route to Iceland. In 1921 "Island" was pronounced royal yacht and sailed to Greenland with the
Danish Royal Family. On this journey distress calls were recieved from the swedish steamer "Bele"
which had stranded in Disco Bay. "Island" sailed to the rescue and all were saved before "Bele"
finally sank. On board the "Bele" was artic explorer Knud Rasmussen bound for Greenland and the
Arctic on the their 5th expedition.
Captain Aasberg was decorated by the Swedish king with Commodore cross of the Vasa order. He also
held Knight and Commodore 2.grade of Dannebrog, and Commodore of the Icelandic Falcon order.
