BIOGRAPHY
Jan Jansz was born about 1600, the son of Jan Gerritsz (van Sijp) and Annetgen Engelsdr. Coninck/Coning.
It appears probable that he was born on the farm that his grandfather (and great grandfather, before that) leased, later called Zijle-inde, at Zijldijk 8 in 't Lagelandt Warmond.
He was married in 1627 to Jannetge Feuyten, with the surname Bout recorded in several subsequent baptismal documents, ascribed both to him and to their first two children Machtelt and Cornelis. This surname appears to derive from his maternal side ancestor, Jan Cornelisz. Bout who was the father of Jan Jansz' grandmother.
The surname Bout was not used by any of his siblings based on available records. Nor by his offspring in later years.
He, along with his family, and his siblings (and also some of his cousins) began to take the name van Leeuwen in the late 1650s and 1660s.
In 1658, Jan Jansz was still referenced as Jan Jansz Bout in the records of a land transfer to Dirck Jacobsz. Rousch.
He passed away in or before 1665.
By 1671, he was being referred to posthumously as Jan Jansz van Leeuwen.
