Cora Cannegieter, 80, of Rock Valley, died Saturday, March 18, 1989, at her home in Rock Valley after a long illness. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 21 in Pioneer United Methodist Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. Ron Johnson officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery. Visitation was held at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.
Mrs. Cannegieter, the former Cora Ver Burg, was born Feb. 28, 1909, at Rock Valley and attended Rock Valley Christian School. She married Jake Cannegieter Jan. 30, 1930, at Rock Valley. The couple farmed near Rock Valley until 1951 when they moved into town where he worked at Roorda Machine Shop. In 1957, they moved to Sioux Falls, So. Dak., where he was employed by the Sweetman Construction Co. until his death March 11, 1970. She moved to Inwood in 1971 and to Rock Valley in 1972.
Mrs. Cannegieter was active in the Foster Grandparent Program of Hope Haven and was a member of Pioneer United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Donald of Rock Valley; four daughters, Mrs. Wally (Joan) Caswell of Inwood, Mrs. Gerrit (Lois) Vande Stouwe of Rock Valley, Mrs. Paul (Shirley) Viereck of Larchwood and Mrs. Mel (Karen) Clark of Bremerton, Wash.; a brother, Bert Ver Burg of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth (Bess) Koel of Alvord and Mrs. Ann Druyvesteyn of San Antonio, Texas; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
