    Lyle Stewart Knopf was born on April 1, 1918 in Flint Michigan. He attended public schools in Flint and graduated from Michigan State University in 1940 with a BA degree. In 1941 he married Anita Forrester of Flint, Michigan. Mr. Knopf began his accounting career as a junior accountant with Lewis Bishop, Certified Public Accountants, in Flint, Michigan in 1940. This work was interrupted by five years military service during World War II wherein he was engaged in auditing government contract work until relieved from active duty in 1946 as a Chief Warrant Officer. He returned to the accounting firm of Lewis and Bishop in 1946 and received his Certified Public Accounting certification on August 9, 1949. Mr. Knopf became a partner with J. Clyde Lewis in the accounting firm of Lewis and Knopf in 1949. Since that time the firm has practiced public accounting and continued to grow with the addition of several partners. On January 1, 1988 Mr. Knopf retired as an active partner in his accounting firm. Mr. Knopf was a past member of the Board of Directors of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants. He was also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He served as chairman of the Eastern Chapter of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants and throughout the years was a member of several committees of the state association including Federal and State Taxation committees. He also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Flint Chamber of Commerce and at one time was a member of Governor Milliken's task force on banking and taxes. For many years he was a participant of the Flint Estate Planning Council. Over the years he addressed many groups throughout the State of Michigan on the subject of Federal and State taxes. He also served as one of the discussion leaders for the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants when that association initially introduced the program. In 1967 he was elected to the Board of Directors of Citizens Commercial and Savings Bank of Flint, Michigan and in 1982 became a member of the Board of Directors of the Citizens Banking Corporation holding company. In addition to board activities Mr. Knopf was chairman of the auditing committee and served on several committees of that financial institution. He resigned from these offices on April 1, 1988 when he was 70. For many decades Mr. Knopf was a member of the Board of Trustees of the James A. Welch Foundation which is active in providing additional career counseling for public school students. Mr. Knopf was a past director and officer of Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club, Grand Blanc, Michigan and had served on the Board of Governors and as treasurer of Pipers Landing Country Club in Palm City, Florida. Mr. Knopf has resided in Florida for the past many years. He leaves behind devoted wife, Anita Forrester Knopf; beloved daughter, Loretta (Lori) Knopf Murray (James) of Fenton Michigan; and foster daughter, Suzanne (Alenko) Radovic of France; grandchildren, Steven Lyle Castle, James Eric Murray, Anita Claire Radovic and Adrian-Lyle Radovic; great grand-daughter, Isabell Castle; brother, Edwin Knopf (Dorothy); nephews, Fritz, Richard and Chris Knopf, Rod and Gary May; nieces, Barbara (deceased) May Novatis, Lois and Evelyn Knopf; many friends, colleagues, and golf buddies in Michigan and Palm City. He was preceded in death by his brother, Elmer A. Knopf in 1992 and Sister Eleanor Dolinga in 2012. In lieu of flowers please send donations to: the James A.
