The last will and testament of William Perdew of Southampton Township
Bedford County. I William Perdew considering the uncertainty of this
mortal life and being of sound mind and memory I blessed be Almighty
God for the same do make and publish this my last will and testament in
manner and form following that is to say first that all my just debts
shall be paid together with my funeral expenses and all charged
touching the prooving of or otherwise concerning this my will shall in
the first place be fully paid and satisfied. I give and bequeath unto my
beloved wife Charity Perdew my house that I now live in also all my
household and kitchen furniture and all my beds and beding excepting one
I also say that all the prophets that may arise from the place that I now
live on is to keep my wife Charity Perdew and my son Asa Perdew as
long as my wife Charity Perdew is my widow I also say my wife Charity
Perdew is to have two cows (which is in lieu of her dower or third) all
to be managed by my Executor the way he may think the most
advantageous for their use all the rest of my movable property is to be
sold and equally divided amonghts my Eleven children William Perdew,
Laban Perdew, Sarah Dicken, James Perdew, Elijah Perdew, John Perdew,
Mary Blair, Asa Perdew, Rebecca Johnson, Keziah Dicken, Charity Casteel
also I say that any money that may be owing to me be any of my children
at my death they nor none of them is to pay no money nor interest until
the death of my beloved wife Charity Perdew then my said Executor is to
make a sale of all my rail state as he may think the most advantageous. I
further say that I impower my Executor to convey all my rail property
and do all the business as though I had done it myself. I further say that
if my Executor has no chance that he may think advantageous of selling
my Real property he is to rent till he has a chance. I also say that all the
money that may be owing to me at the time of my death and all that my
land sells for after all charges is paid is to be equally divided amonghts
my above mentioned eleven children. I also appoint my Executor guardian
of my son Asa Perdew that he is to keep his share of the Estate in his
hands also four note of hands against John Blair all without interest and
give it to my son Asa Perdew as he needs it. Also I say that my Executor
is to have four hundred dollars for managing for my son Asa Perdew I
also say that my son Asa Perdew is to have one bed and beding and
bedstead and one cow. I now appoint my son John Perdew sole Executor
of this my last will and testament revoking all other wills by me made
in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty
fourth day of November one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight.
