The William Greehn Home, Susanville, ca. 1880. Here Greehn and his wife Minna Sternberg Greehn raised two daughters, Hattie and Fannie. Both daughters attended public school, married and eventually moved away. Greehn was a merchant; his stone store building still stands on Main Street. Circa 1892 he became owner of a sawmill and dam on the Susan River with timber acreage on each side. The mill burned down ca. 1896 but half the land was passed by inheritance to Hattie's grandchildren in Los Angeles, traded by them in 2001 to the Trust for Public Land.
1878 Wolf William and Meyer Grun returned to Kepno to retrieve wife and 2 young daughters.
About his house in Susanville:Built in 1884 by a Dr. Frank Leonard who was an architect before taking up Dentistry. It seems the building is "star shaped". It was built with Charles Odette Sr, saw mill operator and builder (I believe Wlm Greehn later bought that mill). The Leonard family moved into the unfinished house in 1884 and work ended in 1887. William Greehn bought it in 1890 when Leonard Retired to Reno. Greehn gave the house to his daughters, Hattie and Fannie, in 1896. The house was rented to three families until it was sold in 1908 to a Henry Swain whose family sold it to the Lodge in 1923. It was on land that originally belonged to Susanville founder Isaac Roop.
