Saddle Lake is a settlement in central Alberta. It is located on the Saddle Lake 125 Indian Reserve and is governed by the Saddle Lake Cree Nation. The Saddle Lake Nation is a Treaty 6 nation, from the Cree language group. The nation was created in 1953 by merging the former Little Hunter (Saddle Lake), James Seenum, and Blue Quill Bands. The Saddle Lake reserve is located on Highway 652, approximately 180 km northeast of the City of Edmonton, 26 km west of the Town of St. Paul and 105 km north of the Town of Vegreville. According to a 2009 Alberta Municipal Affairs estimate, the on-reserve population of the First Nation is 5,883 making it the second most populous First Nation in Alberta.
