"Oscar M. Bergquist
Oscar M. Bergquist, 86, of Sioux City died Thursday, July 16, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a lenghty illness.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. today at Wesley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Morris officiating. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are
under the direction of
Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.
Mr. Bergquist was born April 18, 1912, in New Norway, Alberta, Canada. He moved with his family to Mitchell, S.D. as the age of 5. He moved to Sioux City in 1939.
He married Eunice Tonsfeldt on Feb. 21, 1942, in Sioux City. He was employed as a machinist with Sioux Tools for 40 years, retiring in 1979. He was also a part time musician with several local dance bands.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the machinist and musicians unions.
Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Craig and Julie of Merrill, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Barbara and Tom Arens of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Esther and Don Bates of Mitchell; five grandchildren, Curt, Jon and Jay Bergquist, Kyle Waggoner and Allison Taylor; two stepgrandchildren, Jill and Brooke Arens; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Jean Bergquist of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Frances Church of Omaha, Neb.; and a niece and nephew.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Clint William Bergquist; and four brothers, Ralph, Gene, Theodore and August.
Memorials may be directed to the Big Sioux Chapter Alzheimer's Association or Wesley United Methodist Church."
