"Lois I. Weringa, 78
Funeral services for Lois I. Weringa, 78, of Lakota were held Saturday mourning, November 25, 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakota with Rev. Marino Meisted officiating. Interment was in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Lakota. Zada Valvick was organist and accompanied duets sung by Wally and Marilyn Christ and congregational singing. Casketbearers were Jim Bowman, Michael Christ, Douglas Koons, Mike Koons, Terry Weringa and Ronald Weringa. Winter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Weringa died Tuesday, November 21, 2000 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Lois Irene Koons was born April 17, 1922 to Oliver B. and Lottie (Gettman) Koons in Grant Township of Kossuth County, Iowa. She attended country school and then graduated from Swea City High School. She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church. Lois married George Weringa on January 2, 1943 in Blue Earth, Minnesota. They made their home in Lakota. After her marriage she was confirmed in the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakota. Lois was employed in the lunch room at the Lakota school and worked at the Ukena Hardware store for a number of years before she became correspondent for the Buffalo Center Tribune and Bancroft Register. Lois was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary serving as president this year, taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and was involved in many community activities.
Lois is survived by her son, Gene and his wife Patricia, of Waconia, Minnesota; a granddaughter, Carrie, and her husband, Randy Wessbecker, of Shakopee, Minnesota; one sister, Dorothy, and her husband, Mike Christ, Sr. of Lakota; three brothers: Franklin Koons and his wife, June, of Fairmont, Minnesota; James Koons and his wife, Iris, of Swea City, and Donald Koons and his wife, Lorraine, of Estherville, as well as many good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George, in 1993; a son George Jr. in 1964, and a sister, Violet Burt."
