Rev. W. T. Janssen, who was pastor of the Ramsey Reformed church from 1899 to 1905, and later pastor of the Zion Reformed church at Chapin, Iowa, for 20 years, passed away at his home west of Sheffield, Iowa, Wednesday of last week, andthe funeral was held Saturday.
Rev. Janssen was born January 22, 1865, at Veenhusen, Germany, and came with his parents to the United States when seventeen years of age. The family settled at Forreston, Ill., where he grew to manhood. He felt the call to the ministryand in 1889 entered Hope College at Holland, Michigan, and also attended the Western Tehological Seminary at Holland. He was graduated in 1896. His marriage to Miss Fannie Heeren took place in 1896, and that same year he accepted a callto the pastorate of the Hope Reformed church at George, Iowa, and at the same time served the church at Betel, near Ellsworth, Minn.
Rev. Janssen went to the Ramsey Reformed church in 1899 and served there until the fall of 1905 when he accepted the call to the Zion Reformed church west of Chapin which he served faithfully until 1925 when he was forced to retire fromactive ministerial work because of ill health. Mr. and Mrs. Janssen then resided in Latimer for a year and a half, and in 1926 accepted a charge near Kings, Illinois, where he served for five years. He retired in 1932 and moved toAplington, Iowa, and in 1940 moved back to the Zion Reformed church community to be near their daughter, Mrs. Dick Smit near Sheffield.
Rev. Janssen was a true scholar and educator and served many years as a member of the board of Hope College. He also was editor of the church paper for a considerable time.
The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. W. T. Janssen, and by two sons, Herman Janssen and Ben Janssen of Hampton and one daughter, Mrs. Dick Smit of Sheffield, by two brothers, John Janssen of Sibley, Iowa, and Ben Janssen ofKewanee, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Mrs. David Koenen in 1933." <>
