Charlotte Peterson Haggard Bryant 1816 - 1836 Charlote P. Haggard, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth H. Peterson Haggard, was born on March 4, 1816 in Williamson County, Tennesse and died on January 22, 1836 in the St. Mary/Round Prairie Township area of Hancock County, Illinois, aged 20 years 10 months and 18 days...She is buried in the Rosemont Cemetery at Plymouth in Hancock County, Illinois ne xt to her brother John P. and his 19 year old daughter, Charlotte A. Haggard, who was her deceased aunt's namesake. There is also a smaller Limestone grave marker next to that of her brother John's,f or their father Samuel and mother Elizabeth, it is very weathered and hard to decipher but it simply states; ..."Samuel Haggard, Died June 4, 1867, and just below, His Wife; Elizabeth, Died, June 11, 1867" ... apparently they both fell ill at the same time and passed away within days of each other. Charlotte P. Haggard is documented in the Schuyler County, Illinois Marriage Index, as marriedto a Hiram "Briant" on December 4, 1834. This union deserves further research by me, due to the fact that my maternal great-grand-grandmother, Emeline Bryant Powell's father was also named Hiram Bryant. He was born about 1810 in Kentucky and came to Illinois around the year 1830 and resided in the Ursa Township area in the adjacent county of Adams in Illinois. Hiram Bryant is also documented inthe A dams County, Illinois Marriage index, as marrying Mary "Polly" Crank on August 15, 1836, approximately 8 months after the death of Charllote P. Haggard Bryant. It is interesting to note, that Mary Cra nk was also born in Tennesse and came with her family to Illinois somewhere around the year 1829-30. **Note: On Friday, March 3, 2000, I received additional information about Charlotte Haggard from a cousin in California, who is the great-granddaughter of Martha Ellen Wade Howell, who was a neice to the above Charlotte P. Haggard, the info is as follows: "The Charlotte Haggard that married Hira m Bryant, was a sister to Mary Haggard Wade and a daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Peterson Haggard. Another note of interest is that Charlotte's sister, Catherine "Caroline" Haggard marrieda man nam ed William C. Bryant, in Hancock County, Illinois on August 11, 1836. I am unsure wether these Bryants were related or not. According to "Genealogy & History of the Haggards, 1433 to 1899, by David D. Haggard (published 1899), William C. Bryant was supposedly a cousin and namesake, of William Cullen Bryant, the poet"...
