The Hawkins Family as Quakers Note: This family lived in Craven County, South Carolina and some of their records are found in Bush River, M.M., South Carolina. The books of Wateree M.M. have been lost. The following are references concerning the Hawkins found in the minutes in the Quaker records in the various places that the family were members of the Quakers. Abington Monthly Meeting, Mont gomery Co. Penna Records from June 25, 1746 – September 27, 1756, Page 163 Feb 23, 1756 – James Hawkins requested a certificate for self, wife and children to Fairfax M.M. in Virginia. Some obs truction found to James Hawkins’ certificate and the case continued. July 31, 1758 – James Hawkins being sometime removed to Virginia and having been guilty of drinking before he went has not sen t an acknowledgment and recommendation from the neighborhood where he now resides – certificate signed to Fairfax M.M. in Virginia. Fairfax M.M. VA James, Martha and children John Isaac Natha n Benjamin Jonathan William Amos James Martha Received by certificate from Abington M.M. Penna March 31, 1759 James discontinued Jan. 30, 1762 Jonathan discontinued February 23, 1765for quarrelling with Nathan Potts in November 1764.
