o a : Edgar Handyside. Edgar was a Scottish Doctor and Jamacian landowner (plantation). Read below about he and his family and the names of his land estates. The widow inherited the estates from Edgar, and Alexander and she entered into a prenup, that whoever died first, the other would inherit everything. See below the background of Handysides. The Handysides did mix with the native Jamacians and fathered children, but no reference to Alexander 9'th doing so. This may help further investigation. Alexander sold the Jamacian property following his first wife's death, he returned to Morar, purchased Glenaladale estate from his cousin Capt John MacDonald, who used the money from he sale to underwrite his transporting 220 Clan ranald settlers to PEI (c1772), where he purchased significant property. It was Capt John's expectation to recreate the Highland Laird traditions of Crofters paying tribute to the Laird. Capt John was recruited to form a British Regiment in N.A. to fight against the Colonists in the American Revolution. While away fighting, his sister ran the Estate and many of the Crofters failed and migrated across to Antigonish and Cape Breton for better opportunites. Capt John's experiment on PEI failed!
