LifeSketch: (Seumas (Jamius de Gun Georgsson (Hamish)oved with his family to Kildonan in Sutherland, subsequently known as Gleann na Guineach or Gunn's Glen, where he obtained lands from the Earls of Sutherland; Robert, the second surviving son established his line in Braemore, in the southern heights of Caithness as the Robson Gunns, and John, the third surviving son settled in Cattaig or Bregual in Strathmore, in the higher reaches of the River Thurso above Westerdale. James Gunn was a Scottish Templar Knight, who was said to have been part of Henry Sinclair's expedition to the New World in 1398. The expedition was believed to have reached Nova Scotia and Massachusetts. took from his brother, Henry, their father's broach of office, armor, and clamor, which had been stolen at Tears, and retrieved by Henry. Henry claimed rights to them, having risked his life to retrieve them. But James took them claiming rights to them as signs of chief, and of the office of coroner, inherited from his father. This caused a rift between the brothers. Henry swore that he and his family would no longer be called Gunn. Henry took his family and followers and left. Henry's descendants' surname became Henderson, and variations of that name. James kept the name Gunn, and was also known as James the Crowne, and Seumas.
