There has always been speculation as to the year of Lola's birth. She adopted 1899, but others insist she was actually born in 1898. Supposedly an error was made on her drivers license and she decided to claim 1899 as her birthdate.
There is some confusion of the spelling of Swearengin. It is sometimes spelled Swearingen, or Swearengen. By all accounts, it is a German surname.
The 1920 U.S. Census for the state of Oklahoma, Okmulgee, Bryon Township, enumerated on Jan. 24-25 1920, shows George King and Lola King living in Oklmulgee County.
Mogom states that her place of birth was Arkansas and George puts his place of birth as Missouri in this Census, which is at odds with the 1900 Census. This Census also lists George as being 36 and Lola as 21, which, better fits the profile we already have on record for the age difference,
Oddly Lola puts both her mother and father's place of birth as Missouri, which means she was probably referring to her step father rather than her biological father, Van Swearengin.
Also interesting is the fact that George places the place of birth of both of his parents as just United States, rather than a state. But who knows who the a Census taker spoke with to get that information. It could be that Lola answered the questions and she might not have known the birthplace of her new husband's parents. Since George and Lola were married in 1918, they had been together about two years. No children are listed in the 1920 Census.
I also found the Tabor's listed as neighbors. Lola's sister Minnie married a Tabor and the wife's name is listed as Mittie Tabor. But it shows her age to be 23, and Minnie Gosley would have been much younger than that. The Tabor's have a son, Ewell, who was 2 ½ years old at the time. Minnie may have later married a son of this Tabor family.
