In Autumn 1420 he took part in the siege of Melun. He was a legatee in the 1421 will of his nephew, King Henry V of England. He was taken prisoner at the Battle of Beauge 22 Mar 1421. On regaining his freedom, he was sent to relieve Cosne in Summer 1422. On the death of King Henry V in August 1422, he returned to England, he being one of the king's executors. He was subsequently placed on the Council under Gloucester's protectoate.
