Agnes of Beaujeu (1200-1231) was a French noblewoman, the daughter of Guichard IV, Sire of Beaujeu and his wife Sybille of Flanders[1]. Agnes was Countess of Champagne by her marriage to Theobald I of Navarre.

Family

Agnes' maternal grandparents were Margaret I, Countess of Flanders and Baldwin V, Count of Hainaut. Agnes was a niece of Isabelle of Hainaut, first wife of Philip II of France, hence Agnes was cousin of Louis IX of France. Agnes' maternal aunts and uncles included: Baldwin I of Constantinople, Yolanda of Flanders, Isabelle, Philip I of Namur and Henry of Flanders.
Agnes' paternal grandparents were Humbert II of Beaujeu and his wife Agnes of Thiers.
Humbert II's mother was Elisa of Savoy, daughter of Amadeus III, Count of Savoy and his wife Matilda of Albon.[2]

Agnes married in 1221 to Theobald I of Navarre. For Theobald, this was his second marriage, after he divorced his first wife, Gertrude of Dagsburg the same year. Theobald was in need of children, since Gertrude was unable to provide him with any. Agnes and Theobald had a least one daughter:
Blanche of Navarre (1226-1283) married John I, Duke of Brittany, had issue, including John II, Duke of Brittany and Alix of Brittany.
It is believed that the couple had another daughter:
Agnes of Navarre [3]
Agnes died 1231. If she had lived for another three years, Agnes would have become Queen consort of Navarre. In need of a son and heir, Theobald married a third and final time to Margaret of Bourbon. Margaret gave Theobald three sons and three daughters, among them were: Theobald II of Navarre, Beatrice, Duchess of Burgundy and Henry of Navarre.

Agnes' daughter, Blanche married John I, Duke of Brittany. Blanche was mother to John II, Duke of Brittany, who married Beatrice of England and they were parents to: Arthur II, Duke of Brittany, Marie, Countess of St-Pol and Blanche, Duchess of Brittany.[4]
Marie was grandmother of Marie of Valois; she was mother to Joan I of Naples. Marie of Valois's sister, Isabella of Valois, Duchess of Bourbon was mother of Jeanne, Queen of France, Blanca, Queen of Castile, Louis II, Duke of Bourbon and Bonne, Duchess of Savoy. The third sister was Blanche of Valois, who was the first wife of Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor and mother of Margaret, Queen of Hungary and Katharine, Electress of Brandenburg.
