Funeral At Beaconsfield
The funeral of Mr. Joseph William
Murray took place at Beaconsfield In
the presence ot a large and representa-
tive gathering. Services were conduct-
ed at the home and graveside by Cap-
tain F. Luxton, of the Salvation Army,
assisted by the Rev. A. Grove. The
chief mourners were Mrs. M. Murray
(wife), Mr. and Mrs, H. Alderson
(mother and stepfather), Mrs. T. Lar
risEey and June Murray (daughters),
John, Joesph, Reginald and Noel
(sons). Mr. P. Larrissey (son-in-law),
Mesdames J. H. Murray and J. W.
Murray (daughters-in-law), Mr. and
Mrs. A. E. Cowle, Mrs. F. Cowie, Mr.
W. Cowie (uncle). Mr. R. Cowle
(nephew), Mesdames X. Laitle, and M.
Proctor (nieces). The pall-bearers
were Messrs. P. Larrissey, J. Connor,
R. Connor. J. and N. Murray, and G.
Burgess.
Arrangements were carried out by
Armitage and Armitage, Launceston.
Mr. Murray, who was a resident of
Beaconsfield for 32 years, was born at
Sydney on January 5, 18S5. He came
to Tasmania In 1907. and was employ-
ed by the Tasmania Gold Mine for four
years. He started business in Beacons-
field as a carrier with horse-drawn
vehicles In 1911, and until his death he
conducted a passenger service from
Beaconsfield to Launceston. He was a
member of two lodges, and for 15 years
was a member of the Beaconsfield
Hospital Board. He was secretary of
the Beaconsfield Progress Association.
On September 22, 1909, he married
Martha, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
. John Cowle, of Beaconsfield.

Murray
The high elteem in which Mr. Joseph
William Murray was held was indicated
by the large attendance at his funeral,
which took place at the Beaconsfield
cemetery on Tuesday afternoon.
Mr. Murray was born in Sydney
(N.S.W.) on January 5, 1885, and was
the only son of Mrs. M. Alderson,
Sandy Beach, and the late Mr. Joseph
Murray. He came to Tasmania in 1907,
and worked in the Tasmania gold mine
for four years. He went into business
in Beaconsfield as a carrier between
Beaconsfield and Launceston in 1911,
when horse-drawn vehicles were used.
From then until his death he had a
continuous service on the road.
Mr. Murray *took a keen interest in
lodge work, being a member of the
.O.O.F. and A.N.A. lodges for a con
siderable period. For both of these
friendly societies he secured among the
highest number of new members for
both societies. He was a member of
the local hospital board for about 15
years, and always found pleasure in
working for the institution. He was a
member and secretary of the Beacons
field Progress Association. He was a
supporter of all churches and gave a
lot of help to the Salvation Army.
In 1909 Mr. Murray married a daugh
ter of the late John and Martha Cowie.
He leaves a widow, six children, and
three grandchildren.
