"Rene Peyre, the son of the Huguenot immigrants David and Judith Peyre, was a planter in St. Stephen Parish. He owned 3,397-½ acres on the Santee River in Craven County and 108 slaves. His Commons House membership was limited to the Thirteenth Royal Assembly (1742-1745) for St. James', Santee Parish. Reelected by that same parish to the Twentieth Royal Assembly (1751-1754), he declined to serve . However, he did hold several local offices including tax inquirer and collector for St. James' Santee (1739); churchwarden for St. James', Santee Parish (1740-1741); Commissioner of the High Roads for St. Stephens' (1754); vestryman for St. Stephens' (1754-1755, 1763-1765); and commissioner for building a new church in St. Stephens' (1762)."

Rene Peyre marriages and here's where it things gets confusing!!! The marriage to Floride Bonneau was Rene's Peyre first. He married second Hannah Simons , daughter of Francis Simons and Anne Cordes. Hannah's father died when she was just an infant, and she was raised by her mother and her mother's second husband, Joseph Henry Videau, a son of Pierre Videau and Jeanne Elizabeth Sleigh. Given that Joseph Henry Videau was a brother of Jeanne Elizabeth and Jane, who married respectively Anthoine and Jacob Bonneau - his first wife Floride's brothers - Rene thus married his brother-in-law's wife's daughter, or something like that. After Hannah's death, Rene married for a third time, this time on July 18, 17 65, to Catherine Bonneau, daughter of Jacob Bonneau and Marie Mounier (Miller). Catherine was the widow of Nathan Cleave and the first cousin once removed of Rene's first wife, Floride . Rene and Catherine had a daughter, Magdalene Peyre, who married John Ashby.
