[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 6, Ed. 1, Tree #0125, Date of Import: Mar 28, 1997] This marriage was witnessed by John Baker and Henry Morris, both probably brothers or cousins of the respective marriage partners. The marriage took place in Wilkes County, North Carolina on 29 August 1778 during the Revolutionary War. George's brother, Bolin Baker (Bolin's pension documentation proves the relationship) became a Revolutionary War soldier in early 1780. Bolin would have been about 14 years old when George and Susannah Morris wed. There is evidence that several of the Bolin and Morris families intermarried (in fact, Bolin was married to a Patsy Baker), so it is likely that they lived close to one another in Wilkes County around the time of the American Revolution. I have also noticed that before Wilkes County became such (in 1777) it was part of the larger Rowan County. Thus, research that pre-dates the Revolutionary War should be done with respect to Rowan county, since Wilkes county had come into being only in the late 1700's. (Note to file: August 13, 1994) Research has proved some of these assumptions true. This week I will be reviewing a microfilm record of the early Baker family data. This information includes reference to George Baker (brother of Bolin) as also being a Revolutionary War veteran. More to follow as research continues.) George Baker applied for a Revolutionary War pension on 11-13-1832 in Morgan County, Indiana. He was around 73 years old at the time. He made a second deposition in 1833, after which time he received a pension in the amount of $47.77 per year. George was a private during the Revolution, seeing six separate tours of duty. Her served for a total of 14 months and 10 days within those six tours. He was first a private under the command of Captain John Baptist Ashe who in turn was in Colonel Lillington's Regiment. George was also a private assigned to Captains Walton, Robert Coyle, Robert King and Andrew Baker (no known relation). George Baker moved to Clay County, Kentucky, just after the turn of the century (1800).
