"John was baptized and confirmed at Philothea. He was baptized at St. Mary's11 February 1873 by Rev. Jenter, sponsors were Johann Turkes and Rosina Wagner. His early education was at the Burkettsville Public School, his teacher being his brother-in-law, John Wildenhaus. John grew up on the farm where he was born -- in log house. He was raised in the Roman Catholic Faith. John was a business man and had a hardware store in St. Henry. He also had a farm at New Weston for a while. 30 September 1898 his mother, Catherine, turned the home (near St. Henry) farm over to him. His brother, Henry J. thought this unfair and moved to California. He and his bride took up farming on the homestead in Granville township. John and Rose seemed to move often, though his obit said he was a native of St. Henry. Seemed to live in that area most of the time. In 1919 when his son Joseph was born, he was a grocer -- was this at St. Henry or Coldwater? Joseph was born at Coldwater --maybe a hospital by this time? 2 January 1900, John split the farm and sold 20 acres each to Henry, John and Andrew Brunswick who had adjoining farms. John Wagner died 1 May 1943, age 70 of Bronchial Asthma. He died at St. Henry's with burial at St. Henry's Catholic Cemetery. Rev. Henry W. Hess officiated at the Mass. Rose Keller Wagner died 23 August 1972. She may have gone to Dayton to live with her daughter after John died. (Cletus Said they lived at Dayton) Burial St, Henry's. Information the daughter,Blanche, gave was that all the children were born at Sharpsburg, now Mercer County, Ohio. parents of Rose Keller were Joseph and Emma Keller. Her father, John Wagner Family information: John Wagner got thefamily farm and in turn, John was supposed to "care" for his mother. His wife and his mother did not get along, and Catherine ended up living with her daughter Minnie and Andrew Brunswick There were bad feelings to the time of her death, although I'm told it never seemed to bother John.
