GILMORE CITY — Duro F. Oberhelman, 86, of Gilmore City, died Tuesday at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital, Humboldt.Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Gilmore City, with the Rev. Herbert Schiller officiating. Burial will be in the North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Harris Funeral Home, Gilmore City, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Pallbearers will be Kirk and Zola Pisel, Terry Weiland, Robert Benjamin, Darrell Jones, James Ripperger, Richard Stamper, Gordon Lanning, Charles Sharp, Stanley Benjamin and Robert Munson. He was born May 9, 1919, near Manson to Franklin and Anna Weise Oberhelman. He married Sarah McAliley on July 8, 1945, in Chester, S.C. She died in 1963. He later married Evelyn Abens-Ricklefs on Aug. 7, 1971, at First Lutheran Church, Gilmore City.He graduated from Gilmore City High School in 1937. In 1951, he earned a bachelor’s of science degree from Iowa State University. He served in the U.S. Army from Sept. 25, 1942, until he was honorably discharged on Dec. 1, 1945. He taught country school in Weaver Township. He was later employed with the United States Soil Conservation Service, Fort Dodge, from 1951 to 1953. He then farmed from 1953 until his retirement in 1985. He was an active member of First Lutheran Church where he held several offices, a 55-year member of Gilmore City American Legion Post 239, member of the Gilmore City Senior Citizens, a Weaver Township trustee for many years, a Weaver Township 4-H leader and member of the Isaac Walton League. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Sally (Jim) Veenstra of Clinton; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lois (Rick) Bragg of Brighton, Mich.; one stepdaughter, Deanne Ricklefs of Gilmore City; two stepsons, Dennis (Carol) Ricklefs of Jesup and DeWayne (Becky) Ricklefs of Ida Grove; and 10 grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and two sons.Death date: Feb. 14, 2006#
