Carol Wheeler-Liston, Ph.D., of Denton, died on October 19, 2009,
in an automobile accident near Ada, Oklahoma.
She was survived by her daughter and grandson, Miriam and Nathan Liston, of Ada and sister,
Ann Wheeler of Magnolia.
Carol was born on July 19, 1940. The daughter of Clyde N. and Charline Tansey Wheeler of
El Campo, she graduated from El Campo High School in 1958 and from SMU in 1962,
with a double major in philosophy and religiion. In 1978 she received a master's degree in
child development and nursery education from Texas Women's Universityand in 1980 a
doctorate in child development and family life, also from TWU.
During her long professional career in the Houston and Dallas areas, she was an advocate for
children at risk and their families. She provided counseling, servedas an expert witness in
cases involving children, and consulted with numerous child care associations and agencies.
Although Carol was raised a Methodist, her life-long commitment to pacifism and social
action lead her in adulthood to become a member of the Society of Friends.
Carol will be remembered fondly and with respect and admiration by her family members,
friends, professional associates, and former clients through the state.
