Mary Hopkins McAliley White
Birth: Oct. 8, 1837
Chester County
South Carolina, USA
Death: Sep. 24, 1914
Chester County
South Carolina, USA
Mary Hopkins McAliley was married late in life as a second wife to Francis "Frank" White, formerly of Chester District but widowed in Marissa, Illinois. After her husband's death Mary returned to Chester to live in her father's home with other family members, it is presumed, dying perhaps there quite near Chester the town, in the unpretentious large one-story home constructed by her father, State Sen. Samuel McAliley, a lawyer and a farmer.
Mary was a prolific letter writer and thus a recipient of many letters from family, friends and acquaintances. Many of these letters were during the War between the States and afterwards and were donated to the South Caroliniana library collection of such ancient documents and letters of all sorts.
