Albemarle Parish Records 1700s

Surnames: Webb, Rowland, Land, Ezell, Capell, Proctor, Owen
These are some records I copied from the Albermarle Parish of Surry County, Va. This area became part of Sussex County. Robert Webb, Sr., first appeared on the quit rent rolls of Surry in 1692. He and Robert Webb, Jr., moved from Southwarke Parish down to the Racoon Swamp on the Nottoway River in the early 1700s. Charles Webb, born about 1700, was brother to Robert JR., and moved over into Southampton, where he died in 1758. His three sons were Charles, John, and Micajah. Micajah and John were in Brunswick with sons in the 1780s. Charles was on the plantation in Sussex inherited from his father. Charles in Sussex had no sons. Zadok Bell and Burell Bell were his sons-in-law. Zadok's mother was Phoebe Stokes. The Webbs were neighbors to the Stokes and Freemans.

Please add to this knowledge or make corrections.

Notes and Commentary of Ezell / Rose / Webb Connection

***Dalilah (Delilah) Ezell was the first wife of Charles Webb (abt. 1866--1831) who migrated through North Carolina with William Ezell and into the Union District of South Carolina by the 1800 census. Dr. Edmund Webb of Anderson, South Carolina, and William Webb were the sons of Delilah Ezell. Charles Webb had children by a second wife, Catherine Stribling, and a third wife, Mary Ann Baldwin, but these children were also related to the Ezells because William EzellÂ’s mother, Anne Rose, had common ancestors with Charles WebbÂ’s father.
***The mother of Delilah Ezell was Susanna Seat, daughter of Robert Seat.
***Balaam Ezell, brother of William Ezell, married Lydia Seat, sister of Sussana.
***Anne Rose, wife of Thomas Ezell and father of William Ezell, was the daughter of Richard Rose and Elizabeth Sowerby. Through the Sowerby connection, Anne Rose was a descendant of the Jordans and Floods, ancestors of Robert WebbÂ’s neighbor, Richard Washington and his wife. Robert and Charles Webb are two known sons of the elder Robert Webb. Charles Webb married Elizabeth Barker, daughter of Josiah and Faith (Washington) Barker. The three known sons of Charles Webb from his 1758 will in Southampton were Charles, John, and Micajah. The Floods and Jordans were their ancestors. This also connected them to the Chappells, Briggs, Gilliams, and Edmunds, and Hill families.
***The elder William Ezell was married to Martha Stokes. He is the William Ezell that appears in many of the early records of Brunswick County. He had a son named Drury and several daughters. His father was George Ezell.
***Some researchers show that Thomas Ezell (1716-1782) was the father of William Ezell.
***Thomas EzellÂ’s father was Timothy Ezell (1689-1760)
***Timohty Ezell was the youngest son of George Ezell and Elizabeth Clarke.
***The 1714 will of James Ellis mentions John Hill and William Rowland. Also a William and Mary Rowland.

I have seen the Atkinson name in the records of Surry County, Virginia. This family was in close proximity to people with the other names that you've mentioned. I've wondered about the connection, but can't tell you what it was at this time. I will take a closer look. The Albemarle Parish records that I went through were on micro fish at the state archives in Little Rock, Ark. I'm sure they are available somwhere near you. Perhaps they're on line somewhere. I posted the references I found to the Webb family on the Webb Family Genforum.

Surnames: WEBB, HUDNALL, FIERS,
Are you aware of a Mary WEBB who married a John HUDNALL in the mid 1600s? This John HUDNALL owned land up north in Northumberland County, Virginia, but, he died before November 20, 1659, I believe in the tidewater area, Sussex, Surry or Isle of Wight counties. I also believe he must have also owned land in the tidewater area.
