Haws Cemetary, located by Susan FormyDuval Thomas on 20 Apr, 2000:
Located on dirt road to left just past Robert Jones' Homeplace house # 2188 Manley Smith Road, Nakina, Columbus Co, NC. Second driveway, go about 1/2 miles toward wood/river, down by the fields, you have to walk too, graveyard to edge of wood on right, on a hill, completely covered with woods. It has been disked around it and it is obvious something is in the brush. Two little tombstones are all that exist. This graveyard is just past (500 yrds) the Clark Cemetery.
Robert Jones, now 92, assured Susan Thomas, that at least 15-20 people are there, all Haws and wives, no records were ever kept that he knows about. He owns the land. He was certain Eliza Haws Canady was there, people had looked for her before there. He knew Clint very well. Only two tombstones exist in the middle of it. Susan Thomas personally counted 10 indentions in a line that are graves. Someone planted dogwood trees in rectangles in places that mark some of the indentions. John Haws (?) was the last one buried there according to Mr. Jones.
This area never had a plantation and is known as HorsePen Creek.
