Is it possible that Dicey's maiden name is Soles? How uncommon is the name Dicey? In 1813 (I think that is the correct date), Benjamin Soule left property to Bethel and Dicey Soule. I recall seeing a Benjamin Soles involved in some of the Phillip Watts land transactions.

Berreman Watts (that is how it is spelled in the record) is listed on the 1763 tax list of Bladen County, NC. He has one white poll. This would place his birth date at before 1743 and assuming that he probably came out of Virginia, then I would guess he was born prior to 1740.
On 22 Nov 1771 Berryman Watts received a patent for 100 acres in Bladen County. On 10 Jan 1783 he conveyed the land to Isaac Wolfe. Berryman was listed as a planter from SC.
On 22 Mar 1803 Berryman Watts purchased land lying north of Gapway Swamp (which is in now Columbus County, NC between Tabor City and Fair Bluff).
In a letter from Lou Floy Milligan on January 20, 1990, she writes the following:
"There was a William Berryman in 1638 in Accomack County, Viriginia with 350 acres of land."
I had at once thought she was referring to someone named William Berryman Watts. However, we all know that middle names were very unlikely during this time frame, so I assume that she intended the name was William Berryman. Is our Berryman Watts carrying a surname for a first name?

Per Jason Bordeaux in a posting of Watts GenForum dated 14 Jul 1998, Msg #202:
The name Berryman is often recorded as Benjamin in the early records, but it is evident that the orginal name is Berryman. Undoubtedly, the William Berry Watts who left a will in Virginia in the 1600's is somehow connected to him. The name Berryman is not at all common.
