JOHN (DE WILLOUGHBY), LORD WILLOUGHBY, son and heir, was born 6 January1303/4 and was given seisin of his lands, having proved his age, 29January 1326/7. He was made a knight banneret, 20 January 1326/7; hadprotections, 11 June 1330, going on the King's service to Gascony, and 1October 1337, going with the Earl of Suffolk beyond seas; was summoned toParliament from 27 January 1331/2 to 10 March 1348/9, for service inScotland, 1333, 1335, 1340 and 1341, and to aid the King in Brittany, 20December 1342; was with the King at Antwerp, July 1338, and remainingbeyond seas, November following; and fought at Crécy, 26 August 1346,being also perhaps present at the siege of Calais in 1347.
He married, before 2 July 1323, Joan, sister and coheir of ThomasROSCELYN, daughter of Peter ROSCELYN, of Edgefield, Norfolk. He died 13June 1349, aged 45, and was buried at Spilsby, Lincs.
