The following taken from Glenna Inglis's data base appears to be analternative ancestry:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The Search Series", volume 18, pp. 150-152 John Whitcomb of Taunton,Somerset is listed but not his ancestry. Robin Bush has now establishedhis ancestry, origins from manorial records of Taunton Late Priory. Thismanor covers the area immediately to the north-east of the old borough ofTaunton which lay within the the parish of Taunton, St. James at whichfour of John Whitcombe's children were baptized. This work establishesthat John's parents were Thomas Whetcombe and Johanna Pope and John'sancestry can be traced back to the brothers and sisters of his father. Also, John's mother can be traced back to her grandfather, John Pope ofTaunton. This is from research published in 1997 [The Mary and JohnClearing House, "Search for the Passengers of the Mary and John 1630",volume 26, pp. 61-73 and gives his ancestry as Thomas and Johanna Pope.Info sent originally by Dennis J.
