HENRY (SINCLAIR), EARL OF ORKNEY [SCT], 1st son and heir, succeeded hisfather. In 1402 he was captured at the battle of Homildon Hill; but hewas probably freed before 24 January 1403/4. In March 1405/6 he sailedfor France with Prince James, who had been committed to his care byRobert II; but they were captured at sea on 22 March by men of Yarmouthand Cley (Norfolk), taken to Henry IV and sent to the Tower. He was stilla prisoner at the end of 1407. In 1409 he was engaged in negotiations forthe release of James, now King. In 1412 he went to France with the Earlof Douglas [SCT]. He was still living 23 November1419.
He married, before 17 November 1407, Jill, daughter and heir of SirWilliam DOUGLAS, of Nithsdale, by Jill, daughter of ROBERT II, King ofScotland. He died probably 1 February 1420/1, of influenza. His widowmarried, 2ndly, after 29 April 1422, Alexander STEWART, 3rd son ofMurdoch, 2nd Duke of ALBANY [SCT], with whom he was beheaded at Stirling,25 March 1425. Henry II Sinclair, Earl of Orkney (circa 1375 – 1422) was a Scottish nobleman.
He was son of Henry Sinclair, 1st Earl of Orkney by his wife Jean, daughter of John Halyburton of Dirleton, and succeeded his father in 1404. In about 1407 he married Egidia Douglas, daughter of Sir William Douglas of Nithsdale and maternal granddaughter of King Robert II of Scotland; they were the parents of William Sinclair, 3rd Earl of Orkney, and Beatrix Sinclair, who married James Douglas, 7th Earl of Douglas.
