BARONY of AUDLEY (III)
NICHOLAS (AUDLEY or ALDITHLEY), 3rd LORD AUDLEY [and, as some mayconsider, LORD MARTIN], son and heir by 1st wife, born about 1328. He wasknighted before 1352, and in 1352 was in arms, with his next brotherRoger, against their father, when they sacked Castle Heleigh. He was inthe wars with France (v.p.), 1359 and 1372, arid was afterwards ChiefJustice of South Wales, 1 February 1381/2. He was summoned to Parliament17 December 1387 to 12 December 1390.
He married (settlment (1329/30-1330/1) 5 Edward III, both being thenunder 12) Elizabeth, daughter of Henry (BEAUMONT)) LORD BEAUMONT, byAlice, suojure COUNTESS OF BUCHAN [Scotland]. He died s.p., 22 July 1391,(Writ for Inq. p. m. 30 July 1391) when the BARONY OF AUDLEY, 'together,apparently, with the BARONY OF MARTIN, fell (in accordance with moderndoctrine) into abeyance between his sisters or their descendants (c).Will dated and probated the year of his death. His widow died 27 October1400. Her will, in which she directs to be bur. in Hulton Abbey, with "myvery honourable husband Lord D'Audeley," dated 30 September and proved 2November of the same year. Thomas, Rowland, and JamesAudley, brothers of the whole blood of the last named Margery, all dsp intheir half-brother's life time. In Close Roll, 31 Edward III, m. 17 d,mention is made of Katharine, daughter of Sir James Audley of RougeCastel and Heleye, wife of Thomas Spigurnel. She therefore must havebeen another sister or half sister of Nicholas, Lord Audley, but musthave dvf and sp.

Nicholas Audley, 3rd Baron Audley (c.1328 – 1391) was born in the Heleigh Castle, Staffordshire, England to James Audley, 2nd Baron Audley his only surviving son [1]. He was known as Lord of Rougemont (Redcastle, Shropshire) and is considered one of Marcher Lord as was his father at Heleigh. Nicholas's father in law Henry, 4th Earl of Buchan, received, amongst other large grants of manors and lands, a grant of the Lordship of the Isle of Man in 1310. Later members of the Audley-Stanley family would become Kings of Mann.

Nicholas married Elizabeth Beaumont, sister of John de Beaumont, 2nd Lord Beaumont, daughter of Henry de Beaumont, 4th Earl of Buchan. Although he had many disagreements with his father, he was nevethless buried alongside his father's marble tomb in the quire at the Abbey of Hulton
