'Bill'
TARBORO - William "Bill" Harlan Pressly, III, 57, died peacefully at Duke University Medical Center in the afternoon hours of Wednesday, May 9, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 4 o'clock in the afternoon at Carlisle Funeral Home, Tarboro.Visitation will be held one hour before the service and any time at the home at 103 Lakeview Drive, Tarboro.
Bill was born in Ithaca, New York, on April 5, 1955, to William Harlan Pressly, Jr., and Marjorie Farnham Pressly. He was a member of the Peakland United Methodist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia. At the time of his death, Bill was employed by GlaxoSmithKline as an audit manager, with responsibility for product consistency between the firms manufacturing facilities around the world.
He was predeceased in death by his maternal grandparents, Myrlon and Hortense Farnham; paternal grandparents, William and Leita Hiers Pressly; his in-laws, Pat Larry and Shirley Craft Martin; and a brother-in-law, Danny Wayne Martin.
Bill had many accomplishments in his life. In 1982, Bill graduated from the Chapman School of Seamanship in Stuart, Florida. He graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelors of Science in Applied Physics in May 1991, Summa Cum Laude. He received the James Fenly Spear Award for Outstanding Dedication in Physics by the of Department of Physics at ECU. On December 15, 1993, he graduated with a Masters of Science in Industrial Technology, also from ECU. Bill was a member of National Physics Honor Society, or Sigma Pi Sigma.
In addition to his education, Bill had many more accomplishments of which he was proud. He held a captains' license, as well as a scuba diving license. An avid saltwater fisherman, Bill was very blessed to have fished all around the world, including the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Australia. He also enjoyed fishing off the coast of North Carolina in his boat, The Dreama Kay. Bill was a member of the Old Hickory Gun Club, the International Benchrest Shooters Association, an honorary member of the NC Sheriffs Associations, and a lifetime member of the NRA. His hobbies also included motorcycle racing and race car building which he was avidly pursuing at the time of his illness. Bill was also a dedicated member of the Pirate Club and an enthusiastic supporter of ECU athletics.
Bill is survived by a loving family that includes his wife of 30 years, Dreama Martin Pressly; parents, William Harlan Pressly Jr. and Marjorie Farnham Pressly, of Lynchburg, VA; sisters, Susan Anthony and husband David, of Jacksonville, FL; Martha Hughes and husband Steve, of Davidsonville, MD; brother, Myrlon Pressly and wife Kathy, of Crofton, MD; nieces & nephews, Lauren Anthony, Katherine Anthony, and Mason Anthony, of Jacksonville, FL; Robert Pressly, of The University of Michigan; and Jack Hughes, of Davidsonville, MD. Bill is also survived by a special "sister," Denise Craft Wilbern, special friends, Ellis Daw, Bobby VanBrunt, and Kenny Bowling. He also leaves behind his feline companions, Blue Boy and Molly.
