He graduated from Lamar High School, and attended the University of Texas.Mr. Brown owned and operated the Cletus Brown Lumber Company in Houston until his retirement in 1966. After his retirement, Mr. Brown moved to his farm, Mossleigh in Brookshire where he raised Thoroughbred horses, Charolais cattle, and worked as an independent oil and gas industry. A 32 degree Mason, Mr. Brown was a member of Masonic Lodge #1189 AF & AM for 59 years, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, and a 50 year member of the Shriners Temple.He was preceded in death by his son, the late Edward Showers Brown; and his parents, Leslie Cletus Brown, and Catherine Hamblen Brown. His survivors include his wife, Betty Showers Brown of Brookshire; a daughter, Mary Katherine Armstrong of Austin, and her children, Cynthia Camille Armstrong, Catherine Stiles and her husband Shane, and their children Stella Grace Stiles, Elizabeth Owens and her husband Rockford P. Owens, Jr. of Houston, and their children, Mia Giamalva, and Rockford P. Owens, III; a son, Leslie Cletus Brown, III and his wife Ann Lacey Brown of Houston, and their children, Leslie Cletus Brown, IV, Edward Showers Brown, and Lucille Cooper Brown; and daughter, Betty Ann Davis of Brookshire, and her children, Leslie Ann Nemeth of Austin, John Edward Nemeth, Hunter Louis Davis, and Caley Clare Davis all of Brookshire; his sister, Bettye Beverlye Dodd of Bellville; his sisters-in-law, Ann Showers Butler of Austin, and Nancy Showers Slaughter and her husband Lon of San Angleo; and numerous nieces and nephews. The memorial service is to be conducted at three o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 1st of August, in the chapel of Brookwood Community, 1752 Farm to Market Road 1489 in Brookshire.
