About 1835, George G. Durham removed his family to Fayette Co. TN. He appears on the tax list there in 1836, with 150 acres of land and owning 9 slaves. He later owned over 500 acres and at one time had 19 slaves.

On the 1850 census of Fayette County, TN George G. is recorded as living in Civil District #8 on stage Road, just west of Sommerville, between that city and the rural village of Oakland.

By owning 19 slaves, this shows that George G. raised cotton. There are other entries in deed books. In 1844, George began selling some of his land. He sold a lot of his land to his son, John M. Durham for about $4,000. On December 13, 1844 he sold his 19 slaves to John M. Durham for $6,500. He also sold his son 75 head of hogs, 35 head of cattle, some head of sheep, wagons, corn, fodder and oats, 9 horses and colts, 3500 pounds of pork, 4 bedsteads and furniture, 1 secretary, 1 bureau, 1 press, lot of plows and farming equipment on the Bluff Creek place. Deed Book. 1p. 530. On page 527 of same deed book we find where he deeded to John M. Durham 202 acres in Range 2, Section 3, another tract of 202 3/4 acres, and these 2 tracts comprised the plantation where George lived. Acres in 3rd tract not given. Witnesses for all of above were: Levin H. Coe, Joseph Davidson, Thomas M McFadden.

By 1847, his son, John, had died and George Durham went back and lived on the land. In the 1850 census he is listed as 59 years old and states he was born in VA. This census was taken in Fayette Co. TN, house #817. He lived west of Sommerville on the Stage road between Sommerville and Oakland. Next door was John M. Manley. His wife, Elizabeth is not listed in his household in this census.

George Durham was in money trouble in 1853 and entered into his first trust deed. He sold Joseph G. Garvin, H. Garvin, and A. G. Waller all the timber on his farm in 1854. I 1856 the court was involved in distributing his estate to his heirs on account of his mental impairment. George did not leave a will in Fayette Co., TN, and he died there October 2, 1858. January 4, 1859, James A. Manley was appointed administrator of the estate of George G. Durham, deceased. James A. Manley entered a $10,000 bond. This is found in the County Court Minutes, Bk. G., p.30.

The exact place of George G. Durham's burial place is not known.

When we contacted Ramona Roberts, a third cousin of Roy's; we were blessed beyond all imagination. It is to her we owe much credit for her research and genealogical expertise. I would like to take the time and space here, to give credit to whom it should be given. Our second generation Durham, George G., was born in VA. circa 1791, and died in Nashville, Davidson County, TN on October 2, 1858. His first wife was Middleton T._____, born November 5, 1795. She died 24th of November 1828, aged 33 years and 19 days. She is buried in the Bethel Presbyterian Churchyard, near Clover, York County, South Carolina. Following are their children:1. James G. Durham, b. York Co. SC. circa 1816. D. July 20, 1820, age 11 months. Buried Bethel Presbyterian Churchyard.2. Emily M. Durham, born York Co. SC. circa 1819. D. July 20, 1820, age 11 months. Durham a warrantee title to 202 acres where Andrews at present resides and when last payment is made, title will be given by Andrews. Wit: Charles C. Yancy, James Martin, Jon W. Durham. Range 5, Section 3 - Civil District 8 near Oakland, TN.Oct 22, 1838 - George G. Durham gave a bill of sale for two slaves to Mores Lynch. Wit: George M. Smith and W. C. Graves.     De Republiek der Verenigde Nederlanden werd in 1794-1795 door de Fransen veroverd onder leiding van bevelhebber Charles Pichegru (geholpen door de Nederlander Herman Willem Daendels); de verovering werd vergemakkelijkt door het dichtvriezen van de Waterlinie; Willem V moest op 18 januari 1795 uitwijken naar Engeland (en van daaruit in 1801 naar Duitsland); de patriotten namen de macht over van de aristocratische regenten en proclameerden de Bataafsche Republiek; op 16 mei 1795 werd het Haags Verdrag gesloten, waarmee ons land een vazalstaat werd van Frankrijk; in 3.1796 kwam er een Nationale Vergadering; in 1798 pleegde Daendels een staatsgreep, die de unitarissen aan de macht bracht; er kwam een nieuwe grondwet, die een Vertegenwoordigend Lichaam (met een Eerste en Tweede Kamer) instelde en als regering een Directoire; in 1799 sloeg Daendels bij Castricum een Brits-Russische invasie af; in 1801 kwam er een nieuwe grondwet; bij de Vrede van Amiens (1802) kreeg ons land van Engeland zijn koloniën terug (behalve Ceylon); na de grondwetswijziging van 1805 kwam er een raadpensionaris als eenhoofdig gezag, namelijk Rutger Jan Schimmelpenninck (van 31 oktober 1761 tot 25 maart 1825).
