BOSTIC — Mrs. Bertha Hamrick Guffey, 84, formerly of Boiling Springs, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Fairhaven Home, where she was a resident.A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late John C. Hamrick and Lillie McSwain Hamrick. She retired from Mauney Hosiery Mill in Kings Mountain in 1981, with nearly 50 years of service. After her retirement, she worked for Professional Samplers and Promotional Advertising in marketing with Wal-Mart, Bi-Lo, K-mart, Ingles and others in both North and South Carolina, until her health forced her to retire from these companies in 1986.A member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church, she enjoyed working in the nursery from about 1950 until 1996. She was married to Gail T. Guffey of Boiling Springs, where they lived until he preceded her in death in 1992. She was a wonderful, devoted caregiver to him during the eight years of his illness. For the past several years, she lived at Fairhaven Home, where she inherited many children and grandchildren and friends there.Survivors include a daughter, Sandy Wall of Ellenboro; three sisters, Gertie Guffey, Ruth Wesson and Lela Blanton, all of Cleveland County; and a host of friends and loved ones at Fairhaven Home.A graveside service will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park, with Dr. Phillip W. Dunford and the Rev. Bo Wagner officiating.
