In the name of God Amen. As it is appointed for all men once to die, I, Daniel Gold of the County of Mecklenburg and state of Virginia being under the decays of nature, but of sound sense and memory, and calling to mind the mortality of my body do here make constitute and ordain this my last will and Testament in the manner and form following inpreinis, I commit my soul to God that gave it and my body to the earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my executors hereafter named and as touching the worldly goods wherewith the Lord hath blessed me, I give and bequeath in the following manner and form.

Item: My will and desire is that my tract of land containing three hundred acres, lying in the county of Caswell in state of North Carolina be equally divided between my two eldest sons to wit Daniel Gold and Ephraim Gold. (Daniel Gold is to have his choice) which I give and bequeath to them and their heirs forever, but should one or both of them die without issue the part belonging to either of the parties so dying, is to be sold and the money equally divided among my the surviving children. I give and bequeath to my eldest son Daniel Gold one feather and furniture also one cow and calf and one horse at about twelve or fifteen pounds price to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give and bequeath to my second son Ephraim Gold one feather bed and furniture also one cow and calf and one horse at about twelve or fifteen pounds price to him and his heirs forever. Item: the tract of land containing two hundred and twenty five acres, whereon I now live, is to be divided between my two younger sons to wit Moore Gold and Pleasant Gold according to the line that is to be run. Beginning on the river bank at the waste place on a locus tree, then straight to the mouth of the ditch, then up the branch as it meanders to Sanderland’s corner tree Moore Gold is to have the upper part and Pleasant the other, which I give and bequeath to them and their heirs forever, but should one or both of them die with issue, the part belonging the either of the parties so dying to be sold and the money equally divided among my then surviving children.

Item: I give and bequeath to my son Moore Gold one feather bed and furniture, one cow and calf and one horse at about twelve or fifteen pounds price to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give and bequeath to my son Pleasant Gold one feather bed and furniture, also one cow and calf and one horse at about twelve or fifteen pounds price to him and his heirs forever. Item: My will and desire is that my beloved wife Elizabeth Gold be possessed with one third of my son Pleasant Gold’s land during her matured life. I also leave to my beloved wife until my daughter Mealy Gold, my son John Gold, and Josiah Gold do either marry or be of age, one Negro man named Jerry, one Negro woman named Han and her increase, one Negro boy named Clem, one Negro boy named David, at which time they and their increase are to be sold and the money equally divided among my sons to with Daniel Gold, Ephraim Gold, Moore Gold, Pleasant Gold, John Gold, Josiah Gold and my daughter Mealy Gold. Item: I also leave to my beloved wife, during her natural life one Negro girl named Amy and her increase and at her decease the said Negro girl and her increase are to be equally divided among my three youngest children to wit Mealy Gold, John Gold and Josiah Gold to them and their heirs forever.

Item: I give to my daughter Elizabeth Gold one Negro boy named Anthony to her and her heirs forever, but should she die without issue the said Negro boy is to be sold and the money equally divided among then surviving children. I also give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Gold one feather bed and furniture, also one cow and calf and one pewter dish and a half dozen plates.

Item: I give and bequeath to my daughter Sara Griffin one Negro boy named Isaac to her and her heirs forever, also one feather bed and furniture, also one cow and calf, one pewter dish and half a dozen plates. Item: I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Griffin a certain tract or parcel of land containing one hundred acres all more or less adjoining the land where I now live to her and her heirs forever, also one Negro girl named Siller and her increase to her and her heirs forever, also one feather bed and furniture one cow and calf, one pewter dish and half a dozen plates. Item: My will and desire is that after all just debts being paid whatever there remains of my estates is at my Wife’s decrease to be equally divided among my three youngest children to wit Mealy Gold, John Gold, and Josiah Gold.

Item: I appoint David Epperson and William Tangent of Person County and Daniel Gold Junior Executors to this my last will and Testament revoking and disallowing all and every other will or wills by me before made ratifying and confirming this an none other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Twenty seventh day of May in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Seven and Ninety Three. Test Peter + Griffin Daniel Gold Mary + Sarrett Charles Hamblin At a Court held for Mecklenburg County the 9th day of September 1793 This will as proved by the oaths of Peter Griffin, Mary Sarrett and Charles Hamblin witness thereto and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Daniel Gold one of the executors therein named who made oath thereto and together with Charles Hamblin, Elijah Griffin, Joseph Townes and Joseph Casler, his securities entered into and acknowledged their bond in the Penalty of two thousand pounds conditioned as the law directs certificate was granted him for obtaining a probate of the said will in due form. Liberty being reserved for other executors therein named to join in the probate when they shall think fit.
