BIOGRAPHY: BIOGRAPHY: He enlisted as an ensign in the 50th Regiment onNov. 2, 1813, in Montgomery Co., Tennessee. He appeared on the Montgomery Co. census in 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850, and 1860.
BIOGRAPHY: BIOGRAPHY: Dempsey Hunter volunteered in Montgomery County, Tennessee, and served thirteen days as Private in Captain John Weakley's company of Tennessee militia in the "Sandy River Expedition". He enlisted next December 10, 1812 and served an private in Captain James Hambleton's (Hamilton's) company of Tennessee militia on the tour to the Natchez Country and continued until April 22, 1813 when he was discharged at Nashville, Tennessee, by Major General Andrew Jackson. He enlisted next and served from September 26, 1813 until December 28, 1813 as private in the First Regiment of Tennessee Volunteers, under command of Colonel E. Bradley, and was discharged at Fayetteville, Tennessee.
BIOGRAPHY: BIOGRAPHY: Dempsey Hunter applied March 21, 1851 for the bounty land which was due under the Act of September 28, 1850 on account of his service in the War of 1812. He was then a resident of Montgomery County, Tennessee, aged fifty-six year; the date and place of his birth and names of his parents were not given. He was allowed eighty acres of bounty land on warrant #33552. He applied May 15, 1855, for the additional bounty land which was due under the Act of March 3, 1855. He was allowed eighty acres of bounty land on warrant #24678.

She died December 2, 1842. The soldier married the second time, Mrs. Mary Ann Jones, the widow of Jordan Jones, who died May 17, 1840; the maiden name of Mary Ann was not given. This second marriage was solemnized November 16, 1844 by Rev. William Randle in Robertson County, Tennessee,
BIOGRAPHY: BIOGRAPHY: Mary Am Hunter, the soldier's widow, resided in Thomasville, Tennessee, in August 1880 at which time she was aged seventy-five years; the date and place of her birth were not given.
BIOGRAPHY: BIOGRAPHY: In 1814, one B. Nicholson was present when Captain John Weakley signed the discharge of Dempsey Hunter. In 1871, G. Nicholson resided in Cheatham County, Tennessee, and was present when the soldier, Dempsey Hunter, made application for pension. In 1880, J. J. Nicholson and J. M. Felt were present in Thomasville, Tennessee, when Mary Ann Hunter made affidavit in regard to her husband's death. Said Mary Ann Hunter referred then to James Hunter, her attorney but did not give his address. No relationship between these persons and the soldier's family was stated.
