BIOGRAPHY: William Rowland was pressed into Bacon's service, imprisonedand forced to pay 8,000 pounds of tobacco for his release, November 9,1667. He made a declaration of loyalty following the rebellion of NathanBacon in March-May 1677.

May have moved from James City County. However was in Surry County before 1676 on the south side of James River and which became Surry Co. in 1654. Surry Co., VA., Deed Book 5, p. 119. Ann Bennitt deed to son Christopher Rowland and Deed Book 5, p. 124 Ann Bennett deed to son William Rowland. Ann, the widow of William Rowland married Jonah Bennett who died in 1696 (Surry Co., VA Court Records, Book 5, p. 168. He is the second ancestor who can be documented in Surry County, VA records
William Rowland was pressed into Bacon's service, imprisoned and forced to pay 8,000 pounds of tobacco for his enlargement, 9 November 1676. He made a declaration of loyalty following rebellion of Nathaniel Bacon in March - May 1677 at Allen's Brick House [now known as Bacon's Castle, a house museum in the Hog Island area of Surry County. This was the home Arthur Allen, another ancestor. One of his descendants through the Williamson and Atkinson families was Rhoda Atkinson who married Hiram Rowland in Oglethorpe County, GA in 1794.
