RATCHFORDS . . . I RECKON
...
161 William Ratchford, born June 1811, died before 9 Nov 1842, buried probably in York County, South Carolina. married Nancy Minerva Fewell. Born 1814. Died unknown, daughter of William and Parthenia Hogue Fewell. Their children are 1611 James Wylie Ratchford and 1612 Margaret Jane Ratchford.
Some family records I (WRC) saw say that William's will was probated in Madison, Georgia However, no record of a will could be found in Madison, Georgia or the county of Madison and county seat, Danielsville. Rather, in Case 5, File [page 328, “Ratchfords...I Reckon”, Wilma Ratchford Craig, Gateway Press, Baltimore, Maryland, ©1971, Library of Congress Card Catalog No. 75-180719.] 226, York County Courthouse, York, South Carolina there are documents showing that William died intestate (without a will) and the petition of R. W. (163) Ratchford to take care of the "small personal & real estate & a widow & two minor children" which William had left. By 20 Aug 1846 William's widow had married John W. Jones according to other documents in the same file at York Co. Other records pertaining to the William Ratchford estate are in Case 71. File 3503. York Co. South Carolina The file contains the items sold. the persons to whom sold. and the amount charged in the sale held 24 Nov 1842. The names of the buyers are quite interesting. The Widow bought about 60 items, William Fewel 11, G. R. Ratchford 10, George Ratchford 3, and these others bought 1, 2, or 3 items: William C. Beaty, John Chambers, W. J. Clawson. Wilson Garner. H. A. Hill. A. S. Hutchison. Daniel James. John Jones. Daniel McElmoyle. William McKerr, Doct Wm Moore, J. E. Davis, Joshua E. Davis, Mrs. E. Fortner, E. W. Smith, Thomas W. or H. Smith, John Steedman, William Tomlinson, and A. S. Wallis.
Minerva Fewell Ratchford by 20 Aug 1846 had married John W. Jones and had these children: William Jones married Mattie Lynn. Dudley Jones married Laura Jones married Richard Lynn (brother of Mattie Lynn who married William Jones), and Mary Jones married Duff. From the paper written by 116117 Fannie Ratchford: "William and Mattie Lynn Jones came to Texas and settled at Montell, near Uvalde, where they reared two sons: Clarence and Lynn, and five daughters: Fannie and Ellen, twins, Lela, Marie, and Irene. Bishop Evertt Holland Jones of San Antonio is the son of Clarence".
