Hi David,
I believe that you may have solved a mystery for me and given me a lead a generation further back. One of our ancestors, Martha J. REEDY married Abner L. STOKES in Perry Co., AL on 02 DEC 1850. I had noted that James K. REEDY of Perry Co. was probably her father (although where I got that notion I don't remember now...; perhaps because he was the right age and also from SC... I didn't realize when I was a green-horn how important source info was! ;o)
Anyway, I also had a brother for Martha named Walker REEDY born abt 1843 (see: http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=cheristokes2&id=I6150). I went to the library today and looked up the 1850 census for James K. & Mary B. REEDY. Below are the results:
1850 Census - Dublin, Perry Co., AL - Pg 71D (23DEC1850)
REEDY, Jas. K. - 43 - M - W - Farmer - 1000 - SC
~, Mary B. - 42 - F - W - SC
~, Mary E. - 18 - F - W - SC
~, Martha J. - 17 - F - W - SC
~, Wm. A. - 15 - M - W - SC
~, John L. - 13 - M - W - SC
~, Peter W. - 11 - M - W - AL
~, James T. - 9 - M - W - AL
~, Charles - 7 - M - W - AL
~, Sarah Jane - 5 - F - W - [G (prob GA) marked through] AL
~, George W. - 3 - M - W - AL (maybe went by "WALKER"?)
So, based on the fact that Peter W. was born in AL around 1839 and YOUR information I also checked the Chester Co., SC census for 1840 and found that the children's sex and ages would fit the James K. REEDY found there. Here is that information:
1840 Census - Chester Co., SC (stamped page 274)- James K. REEDY:
2 Males 0-4 yrs old
1 Male 5-9 yrs old
1 Male 30-39 yrs old
2 Females 5-9 yrs old
1 Female 30-39 yrs old
James K. REEDY also bought 43.845 acres in AL on 02 FEB 1852. The land description has "St. Stephens" and the only Saint Stephens that I've found is in Washington Co. (a couple of counties away from Perry...)
I know that all of this is just speculation right now and not iron-clad, but I think that it is a solid lead THANKS TO YOUR CONTRIBUTION on WorldConnect and for that I extend a BIG THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR RESEARCH!!!
Sincerely,
--Cheri Stokes (10DEC2005)

This is from memory, so I my not be exact. My ggggfather (James Kennedy Reedy) came to Alabama from Chester Co. SC around 1840. One of his sons, William A Reedy (b.1835) left Al after his wife (Jincy Mitchell) died giving birth to William Jr.
William Sr. moved to Texas, married and had other children.

NOTE: Chuck REEDY ((XXXXX@XXXX.XXX)) provided James' middle name with this post! Looked up his posting history and found his website (listed below) and from there found another generation! Happy Day! --CLS (15DEC2005)
