WOODWARD - Elizabeth McDaniel Brice, 97, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, after a brief illness.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at Concord Presbyterian Church in Woodward, S.C., with the Rev. Peter Rambo officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive visitors at the home after the funeral.
Mrs. Brice was born May 2, 1914, and grew up in Pickens, S.C., with her parents, the late James and Grace McDaniel. Elizabeth, affectionately known as "Tips," lived a long and productive life. Her church and family were the centerpiece of her life. For years she was the organist for her church and taught Sunday School. She received her bachelor's degree from Winthrop College and took advanced courses at Clemson University. Upon her marriage in 1937, she moved to Woodward where she remained. She taught school for many years in Chester, S.C., and took great pleasure in seeing her students mature and succeed. Among her many interests were the garden club, DAR, bridge club, book club, crossword puzzles and studying the Bible. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed studying genealogy. She traveled extensively with the Ligon Family Kinsman Association and visited China, Russia, Great Britain and most European countries.
She is survived by her children, Samuel M. Brice Jr. of Saint Matthews, S.C., Camilla Brice Burbank of Lookout Mountain, Tenn., and Neville Brice of Woodward, S.C.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Margaret Parshall, Genevieve Dukes and Shirley Shannon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel M. Brice; and two sons, McDaniel Hendricks (Danny) Brice and John Scott Brice.
Memorials may be sent to Concord Presbyterian Church, 12646 US Hwy. 321 N., Blackstock, SC 29014.
