Mrs. Vivian Carter Cornwell, age 90, of Anderson Place, widow of John Ross Cornwell, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at NHC Healthcare of Anderson.
Born on Oct. 3, 1913, in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Rufus B. Carter and Ida Walker Carter. She was Bookkeeper/Secretary for Glendell Builders, Inc. and Del Gurley Realtors.
Mrs. Cornwell was a graduate of Girl's High School and Anderson College. She was a member and officer of Golden Hour Garden Club; was President of the Anderson Council of Garden Clubs; was Treasurer of the Business and Professional Women's Club and was a member of the Anderson Womens Club. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, and was a former charter member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where she held several capacities within the church.
She is survived by a son, John Ross Cornwell Jr., and wife, Betty, of Clemson; and a daughter, Barbara Gurley, and husband, Del, of Anderson; five granddaughters, Elaine Gurley Payne, Lynn Gurley Whitfield and Beth Gurley Moore, all of Anderson, Johannah Leigh Cornwell, of Charlotte, and Anne-Ross Cornwell, of Clemson; three great-grandchildren, Justin Whitfield, Carson Moore and Catherine Payne, all of Anderson; a niece, Sylvia Sigler; and a nephew, George Rogers, of Danville, Va. One great-niece and one great-nephew also survive. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Madeleine C. Drennon and Marguerite C. Rogers.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with Dr. Marty Harkey officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service at the cemetery. The family will be at their respective homes.
Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Central Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 1404 North Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621.
The McDougald Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
