Gladys L. Brand 1925 ~ 2009 Our dear sweet sister and aunt passed away quietly on April 3, 2009. She had suffered from Parkinson's disease for the past 10 years.
Gladys was born on July 2, 1925 to Jacob and Lena Brand in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the forth of five children. Gladys spent most of her life living in Sugar House. She graduated from South High school and LDS Business College. During World War II she worked for the U.S. Army at Fort Douglas. She later worked for Pacific National Life, First Continental Life and finally with Ideal National Life. She rose to the position of V.P. in charge of acquistions, mergers and marketing. She planned several agency conventions and sale promotions. This fit in perfectly since she loved to travel; and she traveled all across the U.S. Gladys was proud of her Dutch heritage and her membership in the LDS church.
She had a firm testimony of the Gospel and attended church until her illness prevented her from going. Gladys loved life and she loved sports, she attended the old S.L. Golden Eagles hockey, the S.L Bee's baseball and the Utah Jazz. She loved to attend any sporting event her nephews or nieces were playing in. She was an avid golfer. She loved to play bridge and was part of a group for over 50 years. She loved to read a good book and she always had a new novel to read. She was a great gardener and had a wonderful garden every year.
Though Gladys never married and never had children of her own, she leaves behind many nephews and nieces that were fortunate to have her as their second mother. She was very involved in their lives and their activities. Gladys was a selfless person. She took care of her mother and father throughout their lives. Gladys leaves behind a sister, Joyce L. Barker, of South Jordan and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her mother and father. Brothers: Hugh C. Brand, Leonard Brand and John Brand.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Care Source in Holladay for their loving and tender care of Gladys during the last months of her life. You were all so great. Thank you.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at 12:00 noon. A visitaion will be held on Monday, April 6, from 6 - 8 p.m and one hour prior to services at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 Highland Drive, SLC.
