Elizabeth Sutton
Elizabeth's will was probated Jun 19, 1635 in Canterbury, Co.Kent, Eng. No baptismal record has been found for Elizabeth. She seemed to be a well loved mistress of Edward, the Fifth Lord Dudley. She had 11 children by him, all of which would have been expected to "marry into the land-owning gentry class."
In her will she names her male grandchildren and four Bagley males. These males turn out to be her nephews, children of her unnamed sister and John Bagley. One of these nephews, Edward Bagley, is named as the administrator in the dispersal of her estate on Jun 19, 1635 in Canterbury, England. Up to this finding by Col. Hansen which was published in Jan. of 1996, it was thought that Elizabeth Tomlinson and Lord Dudley were the grandparents of Edward Bagley and his brothers, in part, due to her administration and to land given to the Bagleys by Lord Dudley. However, somewhere along the line, someone had failed to interpret the latin phrase "nepoti ex matre" meaning nephew through his mother in the court ordered administration of 1635. Elizabeth was an aunt and Lord Dudley, not being married to Elizabeth, can not rightly even be called an Uncle of this lineage.
Elizabeth was listed as "Mrs Elyzabeth Tumlinsone" in her burial record.
