The following notes are taken from "The Hatcher Family" by Rev. Francis Campbell Symonds, D.D., Genealogies of Virginia Families, Volume 2, pp 870-881:

"Hache" is a Norman-French word meaning "a light battle axe" and came to be anglicized as "Hatcher" after the Norman invasion of England.

The Hatcher Coat of Arms is an arm enbowed, vested azure, charged with three bars argent, holding in the hand proper, a branch of olives Vert. (Fairbanks Book of Crests)

HENRY HATCHER inherited from his father-in-law in 1708 as follows:
The Will of Henry Lound, dated 2 July 1708:
I HENRY LOUND of Henrico Co., Virginia, being weak in body but of perfect sense and memory praised be Almighty God to will, make, and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form as follows.
Imprimis.  I give and bequeath my Soul to God that gave it and my body to the Earth from whence it came to be buried at the discretion of my Executrix hereafter mentioned in sure and certain hope of a Joyful Ressurection of the Last day.
Item.  I give and bequeath unto my Daughter MARY BATTE two hundred fifty acres of land joining upon the land of CAPT. John WORSHAM it being one half of my patent to her and her heirs, executors, and assigns forever. The other half being disposed of already to William LIGON.
Item.  I give and bequeath unto my Daughter ANNE MOODY one feather bed now in the chamber upstairs, two blankets, one rug, bolster, and pillow and two silver sppons.
Item.  I give and bequeath to my Daughter MARY BATTE my Negro girl BETTY to her and her heirs forever.
Item.  I give and bequeath to my Grandson HENRY HATCHER one Shilling.
Item.  I give and bequeath to my Granddaughter ANN WARD one Shilling.
Item.  I give and bequeath to my granddaughter MARY TANNER one Shilling.
Item.  I give and bequeath to my Granddaughter MARTHA BLANKS one Shilling.
Item.  I give and bequeath to my Grandson William LIGON one gray mare marked with a small crop on the right ear with two small nicks on the left now in his possession and a gun commonly called Berham now in his possession.
Item. I give and bequeath to my Daughter ANNE MOODY one small chest now standing in the chamber upstairs.
Item. I give and bequeath to my Granddaughter Elizabeth LIGON my horse named Blaze now in her possession and one small trunk and one brass kettle.  And all the remaining part of my estate, moveable and immovable, not yet disposed of I give and bequeath to my Daughter MARY BATTE.
And I do hereby will, make, ordain, constitute, and appoint my Daughter MARY BATTE my full whole and sole Executrix of this my Last Will and Testament she paying all my just debts and legacies.  In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the second day of July 1708.

Colonial Wills of Henrico Co., VA 1677-1737, page 33: "Whereas HENRY HATCHER late of the county of Henrico VA dec'd died without a will, his widow and relict ANNE HATCHER is appointed administrator, and is to present an inventory at the next court.  Recorded 1 Sept 1677.

From Jerry Proudfit: Reports that Henry died intestate in 1677 in Henrico Co, VA, refers to wills and deeds, p 33.  On 9/1/1677, Anne, relict and widow of Henry, was granted administration of the estate. Anne's will was probated on 12/1/1708.  Will mentions granddaughter Ann Ward.

From Henrico Co, VA Wills and Deeds 1677-1692, p. 121: We, Edward Hatcher and Benjamin Hatcher, do give to our couzens, the children of our brother Henry Hatcher, the following: To Henry Hatcher and William Hatcher, 2 mares, 2 heifers and 1 feather bed and 2 gunns, to be divided when the first comes of age.  To the three daughters Anne, Mary, and Martha Hatcher, all daughters of one brother Henry Hatcher, these things to be divided when the first comes of age: 3 heifers, 1 mare.  All to be put into hands of Mr. Henry Lound, guardian to said children.  Dated 1 April 1680.

Notes from Robert Hatcher: Will recorded May 1746 Henrico Co., VA.:Henry Hatcher, son of William The Immigrant, married Anne Lound. The Will of Henry Lound of Henrico Co. VA proven November 1708 names a grandson Henry Hatcher.  "On Sept. 1, 1677 Ann, relict of Henry Hatcher deceased was granted administration of her deceased husband's Estate.(Henrico Records 1677-92 page 33; 27 w page 192).

In August 1678, Henry Lound was the guardian of the five children of Henry Hatcher, so Henry had died by then (27 w. page 192).  Henry Lound, in his will dated 1708, probated November 1708, names among other parties grandson Henry Hatcher and granddaughters Ann Ward, Mary Tanner and Martha Blanks.  Henrico Records vol. 1706-1709 27 w page 192.

Henrico records 1677-1771 page 53 "Deed from Edward Hatcher and Benjamin Hatcher to their cousins William, Henry, Ann, Mary and Martha, children of their brother Henry Hatcher for certain horses and cattle."
