"Samuel Coleman was born in Albemarle Co., Virginia in 1752.
He entered service from Albemarle Co., Virginia, and maintained Albemarle Co., as his residence all the time he was in the Rev. War.
He was age 20 and served for 7 years in the Virginia Continental Line, being discharged in 1783."
Records at Washington, D.C. show that he served with Capt. John Marks' Co. in the 14th Virginia Reg. of Food commanded by Col. Charles Lewis and that he saw service at Valley Forge. He also was at Camp Middlebrook and Smiths' Grove during the war. After his discharge he came back to Albemarle Co., Virginia and married Milley Coffey.

Surveyed for the heirs of Samuel Coleman, dec'd, 242 acres of land and divided the same among said heirs, of which division is as follows to wit:
