Rebecca had an illegitimate child, Gonda, in 1749. The Krom genealogist felt that it was likely that she was 15 or 16 at that time, thus born about 1733. That would make her the oldest child of Cornelius and Rebecca. ; There is no baptismal record for Rebecca, neither in Kingston nor in the Minisink Valley churches, but the records that do exist about her and her children make it clear that she lived in Sussex County, New Jersey, and her associations are all with the family of Cornelius Krom and his wife Rebecca.Schoonhoven.
It is also possible that she herself was illegitimate, the daughter of Rebecca Schoonhoven (born 1717) and an unknown father, and that she was born just before the marriage of her mother and Cornelius Krom, probably about 1732 when her mother was 15 years old. That would certainly account for the fact that she is sometimes named Rebecca Krom and sometimes Rebecca Schoonhoven in the baptismal records of her children.
Her husband, Thomas Neffi or Neafus, died about 1758, after which time she had two more illegitimate children. ; For the baptism of those two boys, she was called Rebecca Schoonhoven, but Christopher [born 1762] was known as Christopher Krom/Crum in the Revolutionary War pension records, even though he used the Schoonover surname in later years.
