Sergeant Charles Ernest Montanye, killed in action, was 19 years old and enlisted on June 16, 1917. He was the first member of the Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, Hoboken, N.J. to enlist and the first killed in battle. There are 34 other members of the church in service. Sergeant Montanye's father, Charles M. Montanye is quartermaster of the Hoboken ferries and lives at 30 Park Terrace, West Orange.
