Stricken with paralysis after his return from Sparta Monday afternoon, George Montanye, sixty-six years old, died before a physcian could reach his home at Woodport. He had picked up a friend on the ride back home from Sparta, and this friend stopped for the evening meal with him. ; Montanye was stricken shortly after supper and died while his friend was seeking medical aid. Montanye formerly resided in Sussex, Ogdensburg and Sparta, and prior to the closing of the Morris Canal was a blacksmith at Waterloo. His wife, who was the widow of Silas Day, of Franklin, died a few years ago. He is survived by four step-children, Mrs. William H. Leek, of Sussex; Mrs. Frank Kishpaugh, of Easton; Mrs. George Stafford, of Dover, and Silas Day, of Franklin.
Funeral services were held at Ogensburg Presbyterian Church on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock and burial was in the family plot in North Church Cemetery.
