"LEWIS HENRY ROCKWELL
Educator, was born in Charlestown, Montgomery county, N.Y., February 21, 1840, and is a son of Jethro and Elizabeth (Montaney) Rockwell. Having prepared for college at the Fort Plain and Fort Edward Academies, he entered Union College, where he took the classical course and was graduated in 1865, with the degree of Bachelor of Arts. Three years later his Alma Mater conferred upon him the degree of Master of Arts. From 1865 to 1867 he was principal of the Union School at Hudson, Mich., and from 1868 to 1870 was a tutor in mathematics at Union College. While at Union he studied law and was admitted to the bar at Schenectady in 1869. In the fall of 1870, he removed to Albany to accept a position as principal of School No. 20. He was shortly afterward transferred to the principalship at School No. 4, which he held for a short time, and was then for fifteen years principal of School No. 2. For the past twenty years he has been at the head of School No. 11. On December 19, 1865, he married Miss Victoria Love, who died January 7, 1868. On July 13, 1871, he married Miss Emma Brown, daughter of Henry Brown, of Esperance. They have two children, Henry B. and Louise M. Rockwell. Mr. Rockwell resides at 206 Elm Street, Albany."

Prof. Lewis Henry Rockwell died Monday at the home of his daughter. Mrs. Norman Vrooman, at Middleburgh. Prof. Rockwell was born in Charleston, Montgomery county Februry 21, 1840. and was the son of Jethro and Elizabeth Montaney Rockwell.
He prepared for college at the Fort Plain and the Fort Edward academies and entered Union college, where he took the classical course and was graduated
in 1865 with the degree of B. A. Three years later his college conferred on him the degree of M.A.
From 1865 to 1867 he was principal at the Union School in Hudson, Michigan, and from 1868 to 1870 ho was tutor in mathematics at Union college. While at Union he studied law and was admitted to the bar at Schenectady in 1869. In the fall of 1870, he went to Albany to accept a position at School 20. Ho is survived by his wife, a son Henry B. Rockwell, ; a daughter, Mrs Norman Vrooman, of Mlddleburgh, two grandchildren and a brother, Jethro Rockwell, of Schenectady. He was a member of Temple lodge, No. 14, F. A. M., of Albany.
